Underscoring the importance of delivering essential and environmentally safe innovations to help societies thrive, DuPont confirms its ongoing commitment to leading with solutions that address global sustainability challenges, without compromising product quality or regional supply. With significant investment already underway, DuPont Styrofoam Brand XPS Insulation will be fully compliant with the various state adoptions of the Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) Program in the United States and Canadian Environmental Protection Act in Canada, as regulations come into effect in 2021. Further delivering on the company’s mission to protecting and empowering people and the planet, DuPont is committed to creating long-term value for customers, as set forth in its 2030 Sustainability Goals.

"Our objective is straightforward – offer more sustainable solutions that work in many environments to meet the growing demands of energy efficiency regulations and architectural design,” said Tim Lacey, Global Vice President & General Manager, DuPont Performance Building Solutions. “Amid these improvements, our customers should experience no delay or supply chain impact, and zero change in function to the current version in market.”

Continuing the company’s commitment to the long-term reduction of global warming potential of its operations and products, DuPont is currently converting its insulation formulations to meet post-2021 requirements, offering safer substitutes that provide societal and environmental benefits. In North America, DuPont has been working closely with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)(GBCI), Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Extruded Polystyrene Foam Association (XPSA), and over 10 state agencies on the long-term reduction of global warming, ensuring business’ regional quality requirements are met for energy-efficient building designs. By reformulating Styrofoam™ brand insulation, DuPont will be fully compliant, in accordance with specific state and federal regulations.

Above and beyond ensuring environmental compliance, DuPont is continuing its investment in global sustainability efforts using technology innovation to help customers build energy-efficient, resilient and durable shelters in a rapidly changing world. DuPont expects to begin shipping Styrofoam with the DuPont oval effective Jan. 1, 2020, and newly formulated low Global Warming Potential (GWP) Styrofoam starting Jan. 1, 2021.
