IIBEC Launches Certified Building Enclosure Commissioning Provider Application

IIBEC
July 6, 2021

Candidates for IIBEC’s Certified Building Enclosure Commissioning Provider (CBECxP®) credential can now complete an interactive online application process. With the expansion of IIBEC’s focus to building enclosure commissioning, the organization recognized a need in the marketplace for a CBECxP® credential. IIBEC is currently pursuing ISO/IEC 17024 accreditation for this certification through the ANSI National Standards Board (ANAB).

The CBECxP® examination is currently in its final development phases to validate applicants who will be tested on the appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities required to provide building enclosure commissioning duties. The CBECxP® exam is anticipated to be released in late 2021.

CBECxP® Application and Exam Requirements

CBECxP® applicants must have at least four years of building enclosure commissioning experience. IIBEC staff in the credentialing department verify the education and work experience of applicants. Qualification of applicants to sit for the exam is based on a point system.

A minimum of 100 points is required, and scoring is based on one of the following:

  • work experience only;
  • experience and education; or
  • experience, education, and professional credentials.

Applicants must have completed at least 70 hours of continuing education through attendance at a minimum of three seminars directly related to building commissioning, building enclosure consulting, or building construction sciences. Five references are also required.

Once released, the exam will be available at over 1,000 conveniently located testing centers worldwide. After submitting a completed CBECxP® application to IIBEC, applicants should allow 90 days for review and processing. When the CBECxP® exam is available, an exam registration form will be provided to candidates with approved applications.

CBECxP® Fees

Application fee: $425 USD

Examination fee: $325 USD

Annual renewal fee: $250 USD

Receive $75 off the CBECxP® application fee through December 31, 2021, by using discount code CBECxP21 at checkout.

IIBEC thanks the following dedicated IIBEC Building Enclosure Commissioning Certification Council subject matter experts who worked diligently to develop the program: Michael Clark (Chair), David Balistreri, Gene Keeton, Darbi Krumpos, Daniel Lemieux, and Michael Williams. IIBEC is also grateful for the dozens of volunteers who submitted hundreds of exam questions for consideration, served on various certification development task forces, and provided subject matter expertise.

Additional information about the CBECxP® program, including a downloadable CBECxP® Handbook and the online application, can be reviewed on the IIBEC website. Please direct any questions to the IIBEC Membership and Credentials department.
