Architect Katelyn Chapin of Svigals + Partners Honored with Prestigious National Award
Architecture, art and advisory firm, Svigals + Partners has announced that the firm’s Associate, Katelyn Chapin, AIA, NCARB, has been named as a recipient of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2021 AIA Young Architects Award. The prestigious national honor, which is the organization’s highest for young professionals, recognizes, "individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the architecture profession early in their careers."
Chapin, who is one of only about 20 honorees for the award this year, joined Svigals + Partners in 2010. Known for her professional skills, advocacy for the advancement of the architecture profession, and collaborative spirit within the office, Chapin serves as a project leader as well as director of the firm’s acclaimed Kids Build! initiative. Through the KidsBuild! program, Chapin has worked with nearly 300 K-12 students in Connecticut, leading activities related to the architecture, engineering and construction industry. Outside the firm, she’s taken on volunteer positions, including leading roles with various committees for the AIA Connecticut chapter, such as the Women in Architecture Committee, regionally with the AIA New England Council, and nationally with the Young Architects Forum (YAF) serving as 2018-2019 Young Architects Regional Director for New England and the 2020-2021 YAF Community Director.
