There are numerous reasons as to why the stunning Indigo apartment complex won Silicon Valley’s 2016 Market-Rate Residential Project award — its remarkable beauty, immense size, attractive location, and array of high-end amenities explains why Indigo stole the show and ultimately landed its first place ranking.

Recently opening its doors in July 2016, the 2.44 acre/723,636 square-feet project consists of three 10-story towers and several two and three story podium buildings that span over an entire city block in downtown Redwood City, Calif. Indigo features 470 smoke-free apartment homes ranging from $3,000 - $7,000 per month for a studio (495-682 square-feet), one bedroom (697-815 square-feet), two bedroom  (885-1,159 square-feet) or three bedroom (1,481 square-feet) apartment to $12,000+ per month for a luxurious two bedroom, 10th floor penthouse suite (1,635-1,778 square-feet). Some of the features include modern/chef’s kitchen, exclusive access, high ceilings, wood plank flooring throughout, and a bathroom mirror with HDTV.

Moving away from its glorious interior and fascinating amenities, another essential feature that makes Indigo stand out from the rest is its strikingly bold exterior. BDE Architecture based in San Francisco, Calif. elected to go with Laminators Incorporated Omega-Lite ACM panels to clad the majority of the exterior of the project. Omega-Lite ACM panels offer a highly decorative, strong, and durable surface finish for exterior wall surfaces. Composed of a polypropylene, light-weight corrugated core between two finished aluminum sheets, these panels are non-absorbent, water-resistant and easy to maintain.

Architectural Building Products in Buffalo, N.Y. distributed over 160,000 square-feet of Omega-Lite ACM panels in an assortment of colors including classic Bone White, as well as a variety of beautiful custom colors to elegantly accent the buildings, consisting of Mediterranean Blue, Great Grey and Granite Grey. Laminators’ capability to match custom colors to the architect’s specifications was significant in maintaining the consistency of the overall vision.

The ACM panels were installed using Laminators’ proprietary 1-Piece, Tight-Fit Molding installation system. This specific installation system made panel installation easy using Laminators durable 1-piece moldings — both "H" and "Reveal H" moldings are available providing two different design options for the panel joints. A traditional, yet high-tech appearance was obtained at an affordable cost for all involved.

Omega-Lite installed with the 1-Piece, Tight-Fit system guaranteed Indigo a class A fire rating as well as met NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 285, Miami-Dade County Product Control and Florida Product Approval requirements. Laminators Inc. manufactures high quality ACM panels that meet these stringent performance levels and provide design professionals and building owners the confidence that their cladding will withstand the most extreme conditions.

AIMCO (Apartment Investment and Management Company) based out of Denver, Colo. acquired Indigo for $320 million, originally purchased by developer Pauls Corporation for approximately $190 million. AIMCO wasted no time getting most of the apartment homes leased resulting in positive earnings at rental rates above underwriting.
