There is a primary difference between the application of the perimeter drip edge metal at the rake edge and at the downslope of the eave edge. It involves the point of application in relation to the underlayment and/or eaves flashing. At the rake edge, the perimeter drip edge metal is applied over the underlayment with the appropriate fasteners secured every eight (8) to ten (10) inches on center. At the downslope eave edge, the perimeter drip edge metal is applied under the underlayment with the appropriate fasteners secured every eight (8) to ten (10) inches on center. The eave flashing is bent and trimmed in at the corner of the rake edge metal to form a closed end.

The drip edge metal should be fabricated from a minimum 26 gauge galvanized metal. The drip edge metal should be of sufficient length at the horizontal point over the underlayment to prohibit the water from infiltrating the system – approximately two (2) to three (3) inches. The drip edge metal shall extend over the fascia board at the vertical point of each location.
